| | okay, so here are some interesting/funny stories that I've come across over the past week and never bothered to post:
If we have such a gas problem, why don't our officials do anything about it? So it seems that many of our senators and congressmen are far from a model for gas conservation as they're riding in huge, gas guzzling SUVs and only going a few blocks...
No Love for Foie Despite all the problems the city has, Chicago's willing to ignore education and crime problems and instead focus on foie gras. One city councilmen's pet cause is now policy for the entire city. It's completely idiotic and I wonder what effect it will have on the top restaurants in the city that serve foie.
The Seinfeld Summit It's such a great title I had to reference it, but the larger point of the article, which I wholeheartedly agree with, was that this last Sino-American summit at the White House was totally pointless.
Not really fiction, not really reality Yesterday was the national release of the movie "United 93" and much has been written about this movie already. I haven't seen it yet (I can't remember when I was last at the movies here), but it just strikes me as a bit strange. I disagree with those who argue that this movie is "too soon" because there has already been a number of movies made about what happened on 9/11. The reality is that we have yet to find out the whole truth of what happened on that day. The fact that almost 5 years later the government still isn't releasing the tapes from flight 93 is cause to wonder what really happened. The government, especially this administration, has lied to the people so much already that it makes it impossible to accept what they are saying without actual proof. The whole "let's roll" story sounds good, but its the sort of story that people want to hear, to pump them up, and to take their mind away from the reality of what went down. I have no problem with the idea of the movie, but at this point, its going to be considered by many to be a "true" story when in reality much of its closer to fiction than it is truth.
